Brief Introduction

As complex engineered systems become increasingly intelligent, interconnected and safety-critical, reliability must be addressed under deep uncertainty, limited information and evolving operating conditions. This special session focuses on belief reliability as a principle-based framework for managing uncertainty to support design improvement and safety assurance. It welcomes contributions that link functional performance, performance margins, degradation, uncertainty modeling and reliability mechanisms, with the aim of identifying design weaknesses, improving system robustness, and supporting credible validation and safe operation.

Sub-topics

• Advances in belief reliability theory and application

• Uncertainty management for reliability-oriented design improvement

• Modeling of epistemic and aleatory uncertainties in reliability analysis

• Propagation of uncertainty in system function, performance margins and degradation

• Uncertainty reduction through design refinement, testing and validation

• Sensitivity analysis for identifying reliability-critical uncertain factors

• Uncertainty-informed design optimization and robustness improvement

• Integration of simulation, testing and monitoring data for uncertainty management

• Dynamic uncertainty management under changing environments and missions

• Safety assurance and risk control based on uncertainty-aware reliability analysis
